This is experimental software designed for privacy research and personal security. You assume full responsibility for how you use it.

2Decentralized & unmoderated

Burner IM operates as a peer-to-peer (P2P) network over Tor. There is no central server, no central database, and no administrator.

  • –We cannot see your messages.
  • –We cannot ban users.
  • –We cannot recover lost accounts.
  • –We cannot respond to subpoenas or law enforcement requests because we possess no user data.

3Acceptable use

While we cannot technically prevent any specific use of the software due to its decentralized nature, we strongly condemn the use of Burner IM for illegal activities, harassment, or harm. The purpose of this tool is to protect journalists, activists, and citizens in oppressive regimes, not to facilitate crime.

4Encryption & security

While we use strong encryption (Ed25519, ChaCha20-Poly1305), no software is perfect. Burner IM has not yet undergone a third-party security audit. Use at your own risk for high-stakes communications.
