Roadmap

Where we're
headed

Current releasev0.6.0 beta

Today Burner IM is version 0.6.0 beta. This roadmap is aspirational: priorities change, and nothing here is a promise or a contract. Beta feedback directly shapes what ships next.

1

Now

now

We are on version 0.6.0 beta. The public Android APK reflects this build; expect changes between releases.

  • Tor onion messaging

Peer-to-peer chats over hidden services with no central message broker.

  • Cryptographic identities

Ed25519 keys instead of phone numbers or accounts on our servers.

  • End-to-end encryption

ChaCha20-Poly1305 for message confidentiality and integrity.

  • Local-first storage

History on your device (Isar); nothing stored in our cloud—we do not run one.

Next

next

Focus areas after the beta stabilizes. Ordering and timing will shift based on feedback and risk.

  • Identity merge & wipe tools

Merge contacts across key changes where possible; granular delete and panic identity reset.

  • Reliability & Tor lifecycle

Smoother reconnects, clearer status when the network is down, and fewer edge-case failures.

  • Onboarding & UX polish

Clearer first-run flow, settings, and error messages for non-expert users.

  • Security review

Third-party audit or structured review before calling the protocol production-grade.

  • Performance & battery

Background behavior tuned for real-world Android devices and long sessions.

Later

later

Bigger bets that depend on a stable core. No fixed dates—community input welcome.

  • Additional platforms

Exploring iOS and desktop once the Android experience and protocol are proven out.

  • Interoperability

Possible bridges or documented APIs so others can build compatible clients.

  • Localization

More languages and RTL support as the UI settles.
